Arctic autumn of 2008 was very hot in the history of weather observations in the region. This was reported in a special report Arctic Report Card, compiled by the National Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric USA.
The report was the result of observation of 46 scientists from 10 countries. Climatology has been able to establish that the average temperature in the Arctic above the norm of five degrees Celsius.
The main reason for such high temperatures, scientists called the melting of Arctic ice. The disappearance of ice causes the ocean absorbs more solar energy. This in turn leads to higher air temperatures. In 2007, the area of Arctic ice has reached its minimum in the history of observations.
Report Arctic Report Card compiled annually and consists of six sections devoted to the study of the atmosphere, ocean, land, ice, as Greenland and biological research. The first three paragraphs devoted exclusively to climate change, while the last three describe the impact of these changes on the habitat of living organisms. The report in 2008 the first three sections has been given red. This means that changes in the atmosphere, ice and glaciers of Greenland are catastrophic.
